What is Activity-based costing?
By Haresh Ratnagrahi, Founder, HiPrep (CPA, FCA, CMA (US), CISA, CRISC)
Definition
A costing method that assigns overhead to products using cost drivers tied to the activities that cause the costs, rather than a single volume-based rate. It gives a more accurate product cost when overhead is large and varied.
