How to pass CPA FAR
To pass FAR, build a firm US GAAP base, practise task-based simulations early, and review every explanation. Start with the conceptual framework and financial statements, then revenue, leases, debt and equity, and finish with not-for-profit and government accounting.
Build the base
Learn the conceptual framework and the structure of financial statements first. Most later topics assume it.
Prioritise the big topics
Revenue (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), debt, equity, income taxes and consolidations carry a lot of weight.
Practise task-based simulations
FAR simulations are usually tables or journal entries. Work them step by step until you can explain each cell.
Do not skip governmental and not-for-profit
They are a smaller share but can be quick marks once you learn the formats.
New to US GAAP?
Use plain-language or multi-language explanations to learn the concept first, then drill questions.
Frequently asked questions
Is FAR the hardest CPA section?
Many candidates describe it as the heaviest, mostly because of the volume of content.
